Today’s interview is with Slovak-born and London based Jana Vargova, a fantastic singer songwriter with a sound similar to folk heroes of the 70s such as Paul Simon, Joan Baez, and Joni Mitchell.
Jana and me had a lovely conversation about her musical journey, moving to France and then London, where she is now based. We also talked about spirituality, her creative practice, and she also performed 3 songs.
Listen to the podcast:
Jana’s musical journey started in her native Slovakia where she studied classical piano and flute. She went on to study flute in France and continued to pursue the career of a classical musician auditioning for orchestras. She was a member of progressive rock outfit ‘Persona Grata’ that received a lot of praise from Mike Portnoy (Dream Theatre) who invited the band to play at the ”Progressive Nation At Sea ” in Miami, USA.
Following her childhood dream of becoming a singer, she took a leap of faith and moved to London in 2014, not knowing anyone there. At its core, her music is full of melodies that deliver lyrics effortlessly with great intimacy. Having lived away from her birthplace for a long time, she often sings about leaving or finding home.
